Artek was founded in 1935 in Helsinki by Aino and Alvar Aalto, Maire Gullichsen and Nils-Gustav Hahl. Its stated aim was to sell furniture and promote a modern culture of living through exhibitions and other educational means.
Artek furniture combines modern production methods with expert handcraftsmanship and is manufactured in keeping with Alvar Aalto's original vision. The collection includes works by Nordic masters and contemporary international designers.
Artek 2nd Cycle collects and sells preloved Aalto furniture. Artek has a flagship store, three satellite stores and a network of dealers around the world.
