Description

Designed in 1963 by Pierre Paulin, the F300 lounge chair marks a pivotal moment in the history of modern design. Initially conceived in fiberglass and injected polyurethane, the chair stands out for its continuous profile, low seat, and compact shape. The line is visually striking yet unadorned, reflecting Paulin's interest in a design that is both fluid and structured—rooted in functionality but open to formal experimentation. When it was introduced in the late Sixties, it appeared radically different: as if from another era, projected into the future. Reissued today by Gubi, the F300 is updated without compromising the original concept. It is made from HiREK®, a fully recyclable technical polymer containing up to 30% industrial plastic waste. Lightweight and weather-resistant, HiREK allows for a compact surface without additional treatment, preserving the material essence of the original. The selected colors—Alabaster White and Pastel Green—reference the color studies of Anni and Josef Albers, to whom GUBI dedicates this edition. Their exploration of chromatic layers resonates with the chair’s continuous surfaces and three-dimensional perception. Paired with the T877 table, the F300 forms a consistent study of material and form, where the balance between volume and void creates a strong yet unobtrusive presence. While retaining structural clarity, it fits naturally into the Seventies’ lounge vision, between informality and exploration. Today, it returns not as a nostalgic icon, but as a current object capable of redefining the relationship between body, space, and form.
