Cactus is a Cult piece for design collectors created in 1972 by Guido Drocco and Franco Mello for Gufram.Cactus is an ironic piece of furniture, which turns out to be a coat hanger, made of polyurethane foam on the surface and treated with washable black Guflac paint.Cactus perfectly represents the creative climate that characterised Italian-made design in the 1970s. It was born green but changes over time, taking on a surreal character thanks to bold colours. After the white edition in 2007, it is now available in red and black, inviting reflection on contemporary society and its contradictions. Produced in a limited edition of 500 pieces, Cactus becomes in every context a sign charged with new values: no longer an attempt to utopianally recreate an artificial nature, but a Totem without labels with a totally new evocative power.
